What I really liked about this story is that it is based on an actual person, John Pohe. He served in World War 2 trying to keep our country and his hometown safe. I also liked how he became a really good squadron leader as a pilot.
What I like about John Pohe is that he is Maori. What I really like about his personality is that he sacrificed himself for all of New Zealand in 1944. He was born in 1914 10 December in Whanganui.
LEST WE FORGET
Even when an event like this has happened in the past
This weeks cybersmart challenge was about empowerment, which is the "authority or power given to someone to do something". We should follow these instructions when people leave comments on our blogs which are not positive, helpful, and thoughtful. Something I learnt from this challenge is that we should not post mean comments on other peoples blog posts, and not to be a Cyberbully.
This is my finished example of this week's Cybersmart Challenge. Thank you Mr Ferguson for posting the challenge.

Focus: Central Idea and Tone Critical Questions for Understanding Poet’s Purpose -Caged Bird by Maya Angelou - poem
LI: identify and critique the author’s intention for writing; identify symbols and inferences in writing;
SC: identify tone; diction; poetic devices; describe impact or intended effect.
Identify the speaker of the poem.
Malachi:Someone who speaks of freedom.
Hone :A person who is trying to break free
What is the speaker’s tone?
Malachi:Mostly negative with some positive
What vocabulary is used (diction), which reveals the speaker’s tone?
Pita: seldom, bars of rage, grave of dreams, fearful trill.
What is the connotation, implied or true meaning of each word ?
What stanzas are repeated?
Malachi: the 3rd and 6th paragraph
Why are they repeated?
Pita: they are repeated to see how the bird feels when he’s being locked up and free to go.
Identify FOUR symbols from the poem which are used to stand for bigger ideas than their literal meaning?
Malachi: Grave of dreams: means that your dreams are dead and there is no hope for you.
Malachi: The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still:means that he doesn’t know what it is but he still wants it.
What is the central idea of a poem?
Pita: The story was about a bird that is trapped in a cage and also a free bird.
I also think that this was a story about the man who assaulted Maya Angelo. I think that she wrote the poem caged bird because of that man who attacked her.
State central idea in one sentence.
Hone: The central idea of this poem highlights the differences of being free and being trapped by the circumstances of one’s situation
Last question: Based on what we know about Angelou’s life, what are the possible connections between Angelou’s life and her poem “Caged Bird”?
Pita: Maya Angelou wrote this caged bird because she got assaulted when she was 8 years old and the man who assaulted her was found and sentenced by the judge.
Malachi:That Maya Angelou is the caged bird and that man that was pita talking about he only got one day of jail for some reason but he got killed or murder after he was released from jail.When he got killed Maya went mute.
Hone:
Malachi: I wished that the caged bird would be free.
if I was a teacher for the day I would make my students to be respectful to their parents and to the other teachers. I would also give them homework on the second week of the term, I would also teach them heaps and if they are good then I would take them out for P.E, and if I was a teacher I would make them go to the office if they swear fight or even if they disrespect me or the teachers.
This week's writing task was a free-verse poem about "my Mum´s Hands". We
practised using semi-colons, a range of sentence lengths and using better Vocabulary. Our poems are based on an original poem written by Gary O'Connell. I chose to write about my Mum because she is someone special to me.
My Mum's Hands
are soft baby hands;
her back, Steady wall;
her legs, Fast twigs.
Her laugh is soft and pale;
her breath, dust like the wind.
Slepping
quietly and steady in my arms,
my mum
is the kindest person in the world.
I was at home listening to music on my bed. The music was coming from my earphones. Suddenly it made me go to sleep. I woke up at 3pm and the music was still playing. I like it when that happens.
